About the Garden Guy
Brian Pierce, The Garden Guy, has always had a passion for gardening. As a kid, and with his father being in the military, his family moved all over the United States. This gave Brian a chance to experience our many varied regions and in every one of them, he always had some sort of garden.
Some of his earlier work experience includes grounds maintenance at the military facility where his father worked, various restaurant jobs where he thrived on the rewards of good customer service, and eventually attending school for massage therapy and receiving his license to practice. Finally in 2000 he made his way back to the place that he resonated with and loved the most; the Pacific Northwest.
Ready to put down some “roots” and stay awhile, he eagerly enrolled in the Environmental Horticulture program at Lake Washington Technical College and committed to a formal education in a field that he wanted to make his life’s work.
Brian’s journey through the program taught him things such as plant identification, proper pruning, soil science, pest & disease identification, and landscape design. He also had the opportunity to be involved with all aspects of creating a garden at the Northwest Flower & Garden Show. In December of 2002 received his certification for completing the program. He has also continued his education with completing the Washington Native Plant Society Stewardship Program and recently accepted a position as a native plant consultant for Woodinville’s community gardening project; 21 Acres.
Now Brian gets to spend his days doing what he has a passion for and even get paid for it! Since graduating he has had great success in melding his love of gardening, the outdoors, and his artistic abilities into outdoor spaces that feed the soul (or even the body if an edible landscape is your vision). So what does The Garden Guy do when he’s not creating beautiful outdoor spaces in your yard? You guessed it! He’s still gardening in his own yard where he gets to indulge his ultimate passion in native plants and edibles. He’s also been known to take off into the water or woods for days of backpacking, hiking, kayaking, and just general anything outdoorsy!
